Sweet Potato Masala for Dosa – Easy South Indian Recipe

A quick, flavorful sweet potato masala recipe for dosa — made with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and a hint of lime. A healthy twist on classic South Indian potato masala, ready in 25 minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large sweet potato boiled until soft
  • 1 large onion chopped lengthwise
  • 2 sprigs of curry leaves
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp Chana dal
  • 3-4 dried red chillies broken
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder or Indian paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 lime juice
  • Handful of fresh cilantro

Instructions
 

  • Add the oil to a pan, let it heat and add the cumin, mustard, curry leaves and Chana dal. Let them slightly brown.
  • Next add the onion and the broken red chilies. Sauté until onions are translucent.
  • Add the turmeric, salt and paprika. Mix well.
  • Lastly add the mashed sweet potato, mix until everything is blended. Squeeze the lime juice and top off with Cilantro.
  • Pair it with your favorite dosa.
